How to Embed a Timer in WordPress
Copy the code from the ClockAura Embed Builder, add a Custom HTML block to your WordPress post or page, paste the code and publish. The live timer appears where the block sits. No plugin is needed.
Steps
- Open the Embed Builder, pick Timer, Countdown, Clock, Pomodoro or Stopwatch, and set the time, colours and size.
- Click Copy code on the "Script" tab.
- In WordPress, open the post or page and click the + (Add block) button where the timer should go.
- Search for Custom HTML and add that block.
- Paste the code into the block. Click Preview in the block toolbar to see the timer.
- Click Update (or Publish). Open the live page to check it.
Example embed code for WordPress
<a class="clockaura-widget" href="https://clockaura.com/5-minute-timer" data-options="type=timer&m=5" data-width="420" data-height="260">Timer by ClockAura</a><script async src="https://clockaura.com/widget.js"></script>
Make your own version (type, time, colours, size) in the Embed Builder.
Classic editor, Elementor and widgets
- Classic editor: switch from the Visual tab to the Text tab before pasting, otherwise WordPress turns the code into plain text.
- Elementor: drag the HTML widget onto the page and paste the code into its HTML box.
- Sidebar or footer: go to Appearance → Widgets, add a Custom HTML widget to the area you want and paste the code.
- Full Site Editing themes: the same Custom HTML block works inside templates, for example a header countdown to a sale.
WordPress.com vs self-hosted WordPress
Self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org on your own hosting) keeps scripts and iframes for administrators, so both the Script and the Iframe code work.
WordPress.com removes scripts and iframes from Custom HTML on plans that do not allow plugins. If the timer disappears after you save, use a plan that allows plugins, or paste the timer link instead so readers can open it in one click.
If the timer does not show
- Some security plugins strip scripts from posts. Switch to the Iframe tab in the builder; iframe code survives most filters.
- Caching plugins can serve an old copy of the page. Clear the page cache after you publish.
- A strict Content Security Policy needs
frame-src https://clockaura.com(andscript-src https://clockaura.comfor the Script code).
Questions about WordPress
Do I need a WordPress plugin to add a timer?
No. A Custom HTML block is built into WordPress. Paste the embed code into it and the timer works without installing anything.
Will the timer slow down my WordPress site?
No. The widget is a single small file that loads lazily, after the rest of your page, and it makes no other requests.
Can I put a countdown to a sale in my WordPress header?
Yes. Choose "Countdown to a date" in the builder, set the sale end time and paste the code into a Custom HTML block in your header template or a widget area.
Does the timer collect data about my readers?
No. The widget sets no cookies, stores nothing and loads no analytics or ads.
