About the countdown timer

A countdown timer lets you enter any combination of hours, minutes and seconds and watches the clock tick down to zero, alarming you the moment it ends. ClockAura's countdown is built for everyday use: there is no sign-up, no software to install, and the alarm sound is loud enough to hear from the kitchen, the garage or the next room. Whether you're boiling pasta, running a meeting that absolutely cannot run long, or making sure the kids end screen time on schedule, a clean browser-based countdown is the simplest way to keep the time honest.

When to use the countdown timer

  • Cooking — pasta, rice, simmering sauces, baking, sous-vide and resting meat.
  • Meetings — keep stand-ups, lightning talks and round-robin updates strictly on time.
  • Studying — combine focus blocks with short forced breaks even outside a Pomodoro setup.
  • Workouts — quick AMRAPs, plank holds, breath-hold practice and warm-up rounds.
  • Parenting — fair turn-taking on a console, screen-time limits and homework blocks.
  • Public speaking — rehearse a talk against a hard time limit so you finish on time on stage.
  • Tea and coffee — French press, green tea steep, espresso shot pulls.
  • Quiz nights, escape-room style puzzles and party games at home.

How to set a countdown timer

  1. Type your hours, minutes and seconds into the three input boxes.
  2. Click Start (or hit Spacebar) — the display switches to a giant countdown.
  3. When you set Start, your browser will ask for notification permission. Allow it once and ClockAura can pop a notification when the timer ends.
  4. Pause and resume any time without losing the remaining time.
  5. When time is up the screen flashes, the alarm plays and your tab title switches to "Time's up!" so you notice from another tab.

Tips for using the countdown timer

  • Pick a sound you actually like in the Sound picker — beep, long beep, double beep, bell or chime — so the alarm is pleasant, not jarring.
  • Use the volume slider to set the right level once. Your choice is saved across visits.
  • Bookmark a preset duration page (for example /5-minute-timer) for one-click starts.
  • On supported devices the screen will stay on while a countdown is running thanks to the Wake Lock API — useful in the kitchen.
  • Turn on browser notifications and keep the tab open in the background; you will hear the alarm and see a popup when time runs out.

Countdown timer FAQ

What is the longest countdown I can set?

You can set up to 99 hours — long enough for projects, fasts or extended brews. For multi-day countdowns to a specific calendar date, use the Countdown to Date tool instead.

Can I set the timer to repeat automatically?

The countdown timer runs once and stops. For repeating cycles like work-rest patterns, use the Interval Timer or the Pomodoro Timer.

Will the alarm play if my phone is on silent?

Browser audio respects your phone's media volume settings, but on most devices it does play even when ringer mode is silent — as long as the tab is open and your media volume is up.

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?

No. Closing the tab ends the timer. To set a true alarm that survives tab changes inside the site, use the Alarm Clock — it rings on every ClockAura page until you stop it.

Can I set a 30-second or 90-second countdown?

Yes — type 30 in the seconds field for 30 seconds, or 1 minute 30 seconds for a minute and a half. There is no minimum.
